Romans 8 tells us that the law of the Spirit has set us free from the law of sin and death, the mind set on the flesh brings death, that when you are being controlled by the power of the Holy Spirit within you, you will have peace, and that you know the Spirit is within you if you live a Spirit-controlled life. What else do you need? But there’s more! The Spirit dwelling within us is a guarantee that we will be resurrected! And the Holy Spirit gives life to our mortal bodies today! Praise God for the Spirit within us. We are not obligated to please the flesh. We are exhorted to receive the Holy Spirit so we can live by the Spirit and not by the flesh. Jesus came to baptize us with the Holy Spirit to empower us for ministry and become more like Him in our daily lives. Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that Mark 1:8 refers to is key to serving the Lord with power. Being filled every day with the Spirit is what maintains that mission God has given us. We are called to put to death the deeds of the flesh and “keep being kept filled” with the Spirit. That’s what Ephesians 5:18 is telling us to do. Be filled with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings life!
