Many of us know what jealousy is like. I remember not being able to sleep before I was married when I heard that a girlfriend had gone out with another guy. It rips you apart with hurt and anger. I also know that I stirred this in other guys when I spent time with the girl they liked. It’s a powerful emotion. Proverbs 6:34 says, “For jealousy enrages a man, And he will not spare in the day of vengeance.” God is a jealous god. Look at the verses above in the Old Testament. He is jealous for us. We, the church, are grafted in spiritually with spiritual Israel. So when God says in the OT that He is jealous for His people, that means us too! This is confirmed in James 4. God desires us! He is jealous for us. He has an intense love like a hurricane. And I know what that’s like. I’ve been through a major hurricane. It is intense. Full of fury and wrath. God is intense about this! But thankfully, we as believers are not under His wrath! Because of the Cross. Because of Jesus! There is grace.
